Drawing on their own experiences from past victories, both Tovey and Williams stress the importance of South Africa maintaining their composure and strategic approach on the field.

Williams, the forward who clinched victory for South Africa in the 1996 final against Tunisia, highlighted the significance of team cohesion and mentality. “Our boys, although not as well known, are also skillful. Mentality is key – we have to walk onto the pitch believing we are going to win,” Williams emphasized.

Furthermore, both legends praised South Africa’s current squad for their resilience and adaptability, particularly in their recent performances throughout the tournament. Notably, South Africa’s impressive 2-0 upset against Morocco, a team that reached the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, showcased the team’s ability to defy expectations.

However, amidst their optimism, Tovey and Williams remain cognizant of the formidable challenge posed by Nigeria. With players like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman leading the Super Eagles, the duo acknowledges the need for South Africa to remain vigilant and assertive in their gameplay.
