MTN declares the need for a network freeze during the upcoming election

MTN, Africa’s largest mobile telecommunications network, has explained its decision to implement a “network freeze” during Saturday’s presidential election.

MTN announced that the first network freeze would begin on February 24th and end on March 3rd, while the second freeze would begin on March 10th and end on March 15th.

The company stated in a notice that they do not make changes to their network during critical times to reduce the likelihood of an outage. “Keeping the network as it is is a common practice in telecom known as Network Freeze,” MTN explained.

A network freeze is a rare occurrence among telecommunications companies. The process is designed to reduce the likelihood of network burnouts or outages over time. These outages typically occur as a result of activities such as upgrades, maintenance, or unplanned work that may disrupt the customers’ experience.
