In an announcement on Monday, Buckingham Palace disclosed that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.
The revelation follows the monarch’s recent hospital visit for a corrective procedure related to an enlarged prostate.
The palace statement shared, “During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”

Although the palace did not specify the type or stage of the cancer, it affirmed that King Charles had commenced a schedule of regular treatments.
Consequently, he has been advised to postpone public-facing duties, while continuing state business and official paperwork. The monarch’s decision to share his diagnosis aims to quell speculation and contribute to a better understanding of cancer for people worldwide.
Despite the health setback, King Charles III, who ascended to the throne in May 2023 after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, remains optimistic about his treatment. Expressing gratitude to his medical team for swift intervention, he looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
The news comes just a week after both King Charles and Princess Catherine were discharged from a private London clinic following their respective medical procedures. While the king underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate, Princess Catherine, 42, had surgery to address an abdominal issue on January 17.
The royal family continues to face health challenges with grace, and the public awaits updates on King Charles III’s journey to recovery.
