President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to keep the old N200 (two hundred naira note) in circulation until April 10, 2023, when it will no longer be legal tender.
Buhari issued the directive during a live broadcast on Channels TV on Thursday. He stated that the old 200 naira note should be circulated alongside the new 500 and 1000 naira notes.
He also directed the CBN to provide a method for Nigerian citizens to withdraw their money. Buhari also directed the CBN to work with security and anti-corruption agents to ensure that no one undermines the Federal government’s efforts.
