AFCON: Mauritanian Referee, Beida To Officiate Nigeria vs. Cote d’Ivoire Final Showdown On Sunday

In a twist of fate set to add a layer of intrigue to the climax of the 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Dahane Beida from Mauritania as the referee for the highly anticipated final.

“Dahane Beida, aged 32, will be the on-pitch referee for this crucial match,” announced CAF in a statement released on their official website. “This marks his third appearance at this year’s TotalEnergies CAF AFCON.”

Speaking exclusively to our correspondent, Beida expressed his enthusiasm for the task ahead. “It’s an honor and a privilege to officiate such a prestigious match,” he stated. “I am fully prepared to ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of the game.”

Assisting Beida on the field will be Emiliano Dos Santos from Angola and Diana Chicotesha from Zambia, with Morocco’s Bouchra Karboubi serving as the fourth official. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) role will be filled by Mahmoud Ashour from Egypt, supported by Rivet Maria Pakuita from Mauritius.

Beida’s extensive refereeing experience spans various prestigious competitions, including last year’s U17 World Cup in New Zealand and the second leg of the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2022/23.

His proficiency has also been showcased in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup, and the African Football League.
